Balloonenstein first appears in the Season 1 episode, Balloonenstein. In the episode, Meatwad gains electrical powers after being placed into the dryer for a week by Master Shake. He then uses these powers to force Shake into being his personal slave, but soon realizes that nothing good is coming from his powers and that its hurting those around him. Frylock decides to create a balloon animal that resembles Meatwad's beloved deceased pet squirrel, Squirrley, whom he accidentally killed earlier in the episode, so that Meatwad would snuggle it and pour his electrical power into it. While this works, Meatwad contained so much electricity that the balloon grew to about the size of Aqua Teens's house. It contains so much electricity that it could hardly contain it all, and it sporadically shoot off massive bursts of electricity. Master Shake, angered by the new crisis Meatwad has created, shouts, "You've created a Balloonenstein!", which is how it got its name.
The Aqua Teens attempt to destroy the menace many times during the episode, all of which fail. Near the end of the episode, it is sucked into Dr. Weird's portal.

- It is commonly noted that Balloonenstein appeared only in "Balloonenstein" and "Rabbot Redux." However, Balloonenstein can be found in Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters. in the scene where the camera pans all the way up into the sky until it reaches the Plutonians ship, Balloonenstein can be seen floating several thousands of feet in the air. Balloonenstein also makes brief cameos in the Aqua Something You Know Whatever theme song and the Aqua TV Show Show episode, "Piranha Germs."
